Wing Chun Kung Fu & Close-Quarter Combat Self Defense in Dania Beach, FL

Wing Chun Kung Fu Mook Jong wooden dummies at Bushido Ryu Dojo in Dania Beach, Florida
Wing Chun Kung Fu “Mook Jong” (Wooden Dummy) training at Bushido Ryu Dojo

QUICK READ

  • ADULT Wing Chun Kung Fu, trained as close-quarter combat. Not a demonstration art. One of the five arts we teach, and the one built for the range where real fights actually happen.
  • BEGINNERS: Being a complete beginner is fine. And ENCOURAGED. You do not need any Kung Fu background. You do not need to be flexible, athletic, or young. We know stepping into a new place like this is intimidating. We’ve all been there.
You will be put one-on-one with an assistant instructor. You won’t be under a spotlight, and the pace is calibrated to where you actually are.
  • Most fights end up close. Chest to chest, hands tangled, no room to kick or wind up a punch. Wing Chun is the art built for exactly that distance.
  • We have five Mook Jong (wooden dummies) on the floor. Sensei built three of them himself. Most schools that list Wing Chun have none.

John Alonzo: Sensei has a curriculum that crosses many styles including grappling, locks, submissions, breaks, upright fighting, elements of Kali and Wing Chun and more all taught in a friendly and calm atmosphere that makes learning easy and stress free. Not to be overlooked is the camaraderie of like minded brothers and sisters and I have so much fun there I rarely let anything interfere with my dojo schedule.

Most fights end up close. Almost nobody trains there.

Watch any real fight. It does not look like a movie. It closes in about a second.

The distance collapses. You are chest to chest. Arms are tangled. There is no room to throw a proper punch and no room at all to kick.

That is the range where it gets decided. And it is the range most martial arts spend the least time in, because it is awkward, crowded, and does not look good in a demonstration.

Wing Chun Kung Fu is the art built for that distance. Short structure. Straight lines. Both hands working. You learn to feel what the other person is doing through contact instead of trying to watch for it, because at that range your eyes are too slow.

The functional martial arts styles at the root of the Bushido Ryu system, each covering a different fighting range
Different arts, one purpose. Each one owns a different range.

Every Martial Art owns a range. Wing Chun Kung Fu dominates infighting range.

Kicking range. Punching range. Grappling range. Weapons have their own.

A martial artist who only trains one of them has a gap in their defense, and the gap is where they get beaten.

At this Dojo you get the whole toolbox. Karate and Krav Maga for striking and the fastest route to functional self-defense. Jujitsu for locks, throws, grappling and takedowns. Kali for weapons. Wing Chun Kung Fu for close quarters fighting and trapping.

One warrior. All situations. No single style has all the answers.

Effective Martial Skills. The Jason Bourne/John Wick "toolbox".

The “Mook Jong”. Five of them.

The wooden dummy the most iconic of the Wing Chun Kung Fu training tools. It does not flinch, it does not cooperate, and it tells you immediately when your structure is wrong.

We have five on the floor. Sensei built three of them himself.

You are closer to this than you think.

Learning to swim like an Olympian is hard. Learning to swim well enough that falling off a dock is not an emergency is not hard at all.

Right up until you can do it, water is frightening. Three weeks later the fear is simply gone.

Self-defense has the same shape. The threshold is short, and crossing it changes everything.

You are not training to beat a professional in the UFC. You are training to be able to defend yourself against a dangerous person who probably isn’t really that good a fighter. Everyone we’ve trained who’s had to defend themselves has been successful. Wing Chun Kung Fu is a big part of that.

What your first class actually looks like

You come in. We sit down and talk for a few minutes first, so you know what you are walking into.

You train in whatever you showed up in. No uniform, no belt, nothing to buy.

You work one-on-one with an assistant instructor, at your pace. Nobody is going to test you and nobody is watching you.

It is free so you can experience the training and we can meet you. You can see if it’s a good fit for you to train with us.
